News from Ise-Somo -- 29 April 2004 bulletin

Ise writes:

Dear brothers & sisters

Greetings to you through the one who died on the cross for us and who was risen from the died and who is alive forever.

I hope that you have spent a good Easter time

For me, I left home on the 7th march, I went to Kampala to participate to the preaching Seminar led by Jonathan Lamb and Chris Wright from U.K. There I went with 3 diocesan coordinators of Evangelism (Bukavu, Butembo & Boga)

Really that Seminar was a big blessing for all of us in our ministry.

After Kampala, I went to Lubumbashi diocese (see Congo map), that was my first time to be there. I visited the 9 parishes in Lubumbashi city, then Kasumbalesa Archidiaconary (120km from Lubumbashi) I entered also in Zambia, and finally I visited Likasi archdeaconary & Kapolowe 100km from Lubumbashii.

After Lubumbashi I went to the new diocese of Kinshasa where I attended the 1st diocesan Synod and then visited all the parishes in Kinshasa.

Everywhere I have been, I was training Pastors, evangelists, catechists and lay people about how to do evangelism among other people. In total 270 persons were trained.

After the work in the two dioceses, I went to Nairobi with my Archbishop to attend a conference on Evangelism for all provincial coordinators of Evangelism from all Anglican provinces in Africa. In Nairobi we had an opportunity to meet bishop Peter Tasker from Sydney and we had a good time to talk to him and also to thank him for the donations we again received since last year to help the displaced people in Congo and also for what BFA is doing for us.

After Nairobi we went to Kampala with my Archbishop for an other meeting about financial matters in our province.

Some difficulties

During my travels I met the following difficulties.

  1. In one location, there is a parish where people are very very poor and have not any cloth. They are naked. They are sharing clothes
  2. There are also 4 directors of evangelism in Archdeaconaries who need to have bicycles.

  3. In Kinshasa, the new diocesan coordinator needs support like the others in other dioceses.

There are also 3 new parishes where pastors need to be supported.

Thanks and God bless

Pastor ISE.
